Red Deer City Hall Park

September 22, Feed 500 Red Deer showcased a modified Feeding 5000 model  – i.e., creating a delicious feast from food that would otherwise have been wasted (think “imperfect” produce, food that’s almost reached its best before date, mislabeled food, surpluses, etc.) – right in the heart of central Alberta, Canada.

See how Red Deer College Cook Apprenticeship students transformed rescued food into a delicious free lunch for 500 people. Part of the excitement is that you never know what you will be serving exactly because it all depends on what food you are able to rescue in the days leading up to the event.

September 22 is also World Car Free Day, so Red Deer Transit provided free transit all day (!) Bike corrals were also provided on-site.

Feed 500 Red Deer: Set Food Free is organized in partnership by The City of Red Deer, Red Deer College and the Recycling Council of Alberta.
