Feeding the 5000 visited Greece!

On the 9th of November 2014 on Lefkos Pirgos Square, we served up a delicious free feast for 5000 members of the public, sourced entirely from fresh, top-quality produce that would otherwise have gone to waste, including misshapen potatoes, wonky carrots and oversized aubergines. The aim is to highlight the global food waste scandal and showcase the delicious solutions available in Greece and beyond.
The event was a spectacular public celebration of the positive solutions to food waste and will include:
– Live cooking demonstrations by chefs Diana Kochyla, Lefteris Lazarou and Eftihis Bletsas
– Disco Soup public interactive vegetable chopping to the sound of music
– DJs and live bands
– Educational workshops for children and adults
Feeding the 5000 Thessaloniki and its surrounding campaign was organised by Feedback in partnership with a range of organisations working to tackle food waste in Thessaloniki, Greece and internationally. These include Anatoliki AE, WWF Greece, Boroume, Slow Food Youth Network Greece, British Council and EU FUSIONS, with the support of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and Thessaloniki Youth Capital 2014.
It can be deemed a huge success, with the Facebook event page of Feeding the 5000 Thessaloniki reaching 79,000 people.
