Feeding the 5000 Toronto
Date(s) - 08/October/2017
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
A Thanksgiving feast for 5000 will bring us one step closer to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 – cutting global food waste in half by 2030. Feeding the 5000 shines a a light on the global food waste scandal through a meal made of food that would otherwise be discarded. The gathering will raise awareness about the 1 billion pounds of food wasted in Toronto last year, while inspiring guests to take action through an array of demos, activities and cook-offs. Hosted by Food Network star Bob Blumer, in collaboration with Second Harvest, Toronto Food Policy Council, Food Systems Lab, Food Banks Canada and George Brown, Feeding the 5000 is a free event that calls on the community to consider how they, too, can transform our future for the better, for everyone. Check out our Facebook event page here.
Chop to it
Join our food prep dance parties on Friday and Saturday- we will be chopping up fruits and veggies in preparation for the event. We’ll be bringing over 2,000 pounds of rescued food by truck from Second Harvest to George Brown to satisfy your chopping needs. All members of the community are invited to take part in the festivities, as we work –– and dance –– together to prepare a mouthwatering Thanksgiving meal for 5000.
