In the spirit of the 2016 Olympic games, all eyes remain on Brazil – and food waste is no exception!
(Think of the feat of Italian culinary hero Massimo Bottura [whose restaurant Franciscan Osteria in Modena has three Michelin stars and was just voted best restaurant in the world], who made celebratory meals from food that otherwise would have been wasted from the Olympic Village, garnering media attention and support from a wide network of celebrity chefs from across the world.)
To leverage the national and international media attention fostered by the Olympics, the Virada Sustentável of São Paulo 2016 is drumming up even MORE excitement via its annual, 4-day event – a sustainability “marathon” teeming with new initiatives.
As part of this year’s festival, the organisation Satisfeito will be hitting the streets of São Paulo on Saturday, August 27 with its FeedTruck – a foodtruck that will collect donations of produce/food that would otherwise have been discarded from food fairs and markets throughout the city, then prepare and serve 1,000 tasty portions to passersby. Preparations start from 8am; dishes will be available from 12pm-6pm.
A champion idea, indeed!
All who are local to São Paulo are encouraged to follow along and join in on the fun. Check out more info on the event, here: https://www.facebook.com/Satisfeito, or enjoy a brief video, here: https://youtu.be/mK_d5WSO7yE
