Tristram Stuart will conclude LSESU FoodCycle’s Hello Tomorrow series.

The subject of Tristram’s talk will be: “Why is finishing your plate never enough?” He will be discussing how one third of the world’s food is wasted, but contrary to what the supermarkets would have you believe (see British Retail Consortium’s recent report: http://www.brc.org.uk/brc_show_document.asp?id=4487&moid=8318]) this is not principally the consumers’ fault. “Most food waste occurs in the industry supply chain, and is often directly caused by supermarket policies. It follows therefore, that finishing your plate will not by itself solve the global food scandal. We have the power to demand, and bring about, radical changes in the world’s food system for we citizens are its paymasters. Let us use it, therefore, to avoid the worst consequences of the mass extinction event we currently participate in.”
