The first ever Feeding the 5000 in Spain: the Gran Dinar Barcelona took place this November.

A coalition of organisations including El PLAT de Gràcia, PAA- Plataforma Aprofitem els Aliments, La Colmena que dice Sí Gràcia, Foodisms by Mayya Papaya, Espigoladors, Feedback and EU FUSIONS have come together to catalyse the movement against food waste in Barcelona.

‘First of all, a TV programme “Sobreviure a la nevera”, Sense Ficció, tv3 was presented short after the Gran Dinar by a Catalan TV presenting the Food Waste scandal here with good coverage of the Gran Dinar and participation of other implicated people. Petitions to participate in public actions/fairs/events have increased notoriously this year 2015 and we’ve done many workshops on “how to save food left in our fridges”…giving ideas and many recipe whilst arising awareness on Food Waste and ways to prevent it.’

‘We’ve had an important petition from Mercabarna, our most important food hub, who asked for our advice for renewing their green point or waste dump and so we will make the diagnosis on how is the real picture now on Food waste in Mercabarna and what actions need to be taken (it is a joint-project with UAB). We’ve also been asked to participate in the big Food fair Barcelona Degusta and we are also involved in organising an action for the Mundial Food Day on October 16th together with the Catalan waste Agency and the Food Bank… these are clear effects and consequences from the Gran Dinar Barcelona! ‘The best aspect of the event, for me, was the final feeling, once the event was finished and the tension disappeared. A mix of shared satisfaction of added efforts from everyone of the team with the satisfying feeling of having achieved our objectives… It was a very strong powerful moment…when we started to hug each other…alltogether a unique experience without doubt!!”
