What is the definition of a large and medium-sized business?

We use the government’s definition, which states that businesses will be considered large if at least two of the following criteria are satisfied:

• Turnover of £36m or more
• Balance sheet of £18m or more
• 250 employees or more

A business will be considered medium if at least two of the following criteria are satisfied:

• between 50 and 249 employees
• Annual turnover between £10.2 million and £35.9 million
• Annual balance sheet total between £5.1 million and £17.9 million
